All the lakes within Lonsdale Park were established from
ancient clay workings some going back 150 years.
The five lakes contain a bounty of different species carp, tench, roach, pike, chub, perch & crucians.... and each has its own personal character. Fishing at Lonsdale Park is exclusively for our residents April to October. The cost of fishing is already included in the price. A limited number of day fisherman are permitted November to March. Our aim is to ensure our lakes are never crowded, some days you may even have one all to yourself!
All Lonsdale Park accommodation has its own private peg on
Lonsdale Lake. An idyllic four-and-a-half acre water lined with
reeds and lily beds make Lonsdale Lake an angler's dream.
Brimming with superb quality fish, mirrors and commons to 30lbs, exceptional ghost carp to 30lbs-plus and grass carp to 20lbs-plus, Lonsdale Lake also offers superb tench fishing with specimens averaging 5lbs and many fish going to around the 10lbs mark.
The roach and perch fishing is excellent with perch around the 2lb mark, the biggest being recorded at 4lb 7oz. The roach fishing is recognised as some of the best in the country.
Deer Lake is a mature tree lined pool. The long arm by Lonsdale Lake forms part of the original clay workings. The spur at the far end was dug in 2001 and offers a change in character, providing reeds, lillies & shelter for both fish & wildlife.
Totalling 1.5 acres, this tree shaded mysterious pool haunted by monster tench and carp, as well as quality roach, chub, perch and crucians. A haven for float anglers - but don't be surprised if you encounter the occasional crucian!
Perfect for the specimen hunter, Reed Mere is a former nature
reserve of two-and-a-half acres and features many secluded reedy
bays which hold specimen carp to over 30lbs, as well as abundant
specimen tench, perch, roach, large pike and a catfish. A good
head of leviathan pike make it an ideal winter fishing location.
Reed Mere is a haven for wildlife making it an ideal stalking lake. Of particular interest to carp anglers are the eight fish which were bought from a syndicate and are related to 'Clarissa', the 44lb common carp with which Richard Walker established a new British record in 1952. It is not unusual to fish Reed Mere and not see another person all day.
A lovely two-acre lake abounding with features, Arches offers
exceptional carp and tench fishing with the average carp in the
high doubles and a number of 'Old Warhorse' commons and mirrors.
In addition there are also some fairly hefty specimen pike to 30lbs plus outstanding roach and perch with some of the perch going to a fine 4lbs. A spell on Arches is highly recommended.
Hidden away amongst the trees at the far side of Lonsdale Lake
is the smallest of the Lonsdale Park waters, the three-peg Birch
Lake. A small but well stocked pool which is ideal for novices
and children, Birch holds abundant carp to 4lb as well as good
stocks of tench, roach and gudgeon.
At a quarters of an acre in size and only three-feet deep, it holds nothing bigger than 10lb to 15lb and is usually float fished with maggots. Because it has a clay bottom it is usually very coloured, which often makes bright baits more effective. Don't dismiss this small pool in the past it has produced match winning catches in the high teens.
